5 weeks ago, over a Social G&T one of our founders, Rhodri had been discussing the plan with friends Darren & Bradley and decided that, the time was right and it was now or never to embark on a road trip in the USA.
So, 48 hours later flights were booked, bikes were reserved with Eagle Rider Rentals & Tours and then, the team then just had the minor detail of figuring out their route to get from Las Vegas to San Francisco in 6 days ;)
Safe to say, our intrepid explorers made it and are back safely, with only a few minor changes to their plan and created some epic memories, celebrated each evening by comparing notes & relaxing with low alcohol SGN and SVK cocktails, leaving them fresh and ready to go early each morning.
Read Rhodri’s Road Trip journal below:
Day 1: Las Vegas to Death Valley via Dantes View
After a long flight and an early night, before picking up our bikes we had to stop and buy some supplies… (yes some cowboy boots were purchased).
We then made our way to Death Valley, the sun was shining the skies were blue, what more could you ask for. Dantes View didn’t disappoint, a perfect place for a photo opportunity for our SGn and SVk.
We arrived a little tired but full of excitement from our first day’s riding. It was time for a drink. With an early start on the cards for the morning and some 320 miles to cover we needed to be mindful of how much we drank.
Due to our SGn having a third less ABV than your usual Gin, we could allow ourselves the luxury of a couple of double G&T’s before dinner.
Day 2: Death Valley to Santa Barbara via Red Rock Canyon State Park
Up and ready at 6.30am with clear heads and minds. Exactly what we would expect after a couple of Social G&T’s the night before. It was a full-on day, with the first 220 miles done on open roads and bright blue skies. This changed when we crossed into California! An hour from LA we were welcomed with some grey clouds and showers, but that still didn’t dampen the day and wonderful scenery that we saw.
We celebrated arriving into Santa Barbara with a Social Vodka Espresso Martini with a twist. The twist being the addition of a coconut wash…. made to perfection by our friendly bar man, this was followed by a cheeky Social G & T with a slice of lime. It was a great way to finish off a sensational day.
Day 3: Santa Barbara to Neptunes Net (Can you name the film ?)
Well, it was a little bit of a late night, but we still managed the early start as Social Spirits are made for drinking not drunking!
What a day it was, we made our way down to Malibu to a famous seafood restaurant named Neptunes’ Net.
This venue featured heavily in one of our all-time favourite films. (No, it’s not The Fast and the Furious or Iron Man 3).
There’s a free bottle of your choosing to the first person that gets the name of the film we are referring too – drop us an email at info@sspirits.co.uk with the subject “Neptune’s Net – which film’ and your answer ;)
Day 4: Neptune Nest to Pismo Beach
What a drive. Our journey took us through some beautiful vineyards and Cold Spring Canyon. We made it to Pismo Beach just as the weather was turning.
Day 5: Pismo Beach to Monterey to Santa Cruz to San Francisco by car not bike!
Well, the weather caught up with us, and with torrential rain, the Head of Health and Safety (Me) made a decision.
We said goodbye to the Harleys and did the last day and a half of our road trip traveling in a car. This was, without a doubt the correct decision as the rain was pretty miserable and Highway 1 was closed due to a mud slide!
We still got to see some fantastic scenery and finished our last night of the trip with nothing more than just some SVk on the rocks with great friends in front of a fire.
Enjoy the moment, stay in the moment with our Social Spirits.
